I have been working as a cybersecurity intern at Vedia for two months now, and I still have three months left to go. During this time, I’ve already learned a lot about real systems, real tools, and real security challenges. This blog is a short summary of what I’ve been doing and what I think makes internships successful.
What I’ve been working on
Most of my work has focused on practical cybersecurity tasks, such as:
- Mapping and testing Vedia’s systems in a safe and controlled way
- Checking HTTPS, TLS, and service configurations
- Analyzing frontend files and understanding how they connect to the backend
- Improving the structure for logs, reports and evidence
This has helped me understand how things actually work in a real environment, not only in theory.
“Otto is doing very valuable work for Vedia. We are currently focusing on ICT platforms, and especially on our core business, which relies on data sharing on a business-to-authority interface where cybersecurity is essentially a threshold for market entry. Vedia has invested in strengthening its capabilities, and now is a good time to conduct more thorough testing of our infrastructure.” – Lasse Nykänen
Why daily meetings matter
Every morning we have a daily meeting online, and the whole development team joins in. For me, it has been one of the best ways to get to know my coworkers and understand what everyone is working on. By listening to others, I learn what people are good at, how they solve problems, and how different parts of the system connect to each other.
The daily meeting gives structure to my work, helps me stay on track, and makes it easy to ask for help when I need it. Even though the meeting is short, it plays a big role in learning and teamwork.
How the internship feels
Even halfway through, the internship has already shown me a lot about real cybersecurity work:
- I get real responsibility, but with clear boundaries.
- I can ask questions whenever I need help.
- I have enough freedom to try things and learn by doing
It’s a good balance of independence and support.
Being part of the Digilog 4 event
One highlight of my internship so far was getting to be part of the Digilog 4 event. It brought together companies and experts to talk about the future of digital logistics and how technology is changing the field. My role at the event was to demo Vedia’s products and show how they work in practice, while other companies also had the chance to present and demonstrate their own innovations. For me, it was a great chance to see how the topics I work on daily connect to the bigger picture. I also got to meet new people, hear different viewpoints and understand how Vedia’s work fits into the wider logistics ecosystem. It was a valuable reminder that cybersecurity is not just a technical task, but it’s an important part of building reliable digital logistics overall.

How companies can make internships great
Based on my own experience so far, here are a few thighs that help:
- Give interns real tasks.
- Provide a simple structure (like daily notes, weekly goals).
- Be available for questions.
- Let interns make mistakes and learn from them.
- Treat them as part of the team.
These things make the experience much more motivating and useful.
Looking ahead
I still have three months left and I’m excited to continue learning and improving. There is still a lot to explore, and each week brings something new. I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can grow during the rest of my internship.
